Outdoor Cooler Caddy

Summer is here, bring on the cookouts, and fresh brews! Don’t be caught with that faded old cooler, lugging it around weighed down with ice and drinks- tote it in style! We’ve built this super easy cooler caddy that is easy to move around, and has a little bit of style.

Built from recycled palletwood, using four (4) 2×4’s to serve as the legs, the cooler is encased and trimmed out with the 1×4 palletwood planks. As seen in the pictures below, the cooler is used to gather an idea of the height of the caddy, as well as rough dimensions to encase the cooler (left). Using palletwood to hide the cooler and to serve as the shell, addition rough fits are gathered to determine the final encasement (right).

The top lid of the IMG_4363cooler was modified and mounted to the lid of the caddy with wood screws. Once both lids were aligned, hinges were added for ease in opening and closing.

The picture on the left shows the cooler lid modified and attached to the top lid so that it lifts off the cooler when opened. When closing the cooler, the lid fits back into place and maintains the original factory seal.

Final touches include: a bear head bottle opener, handles to lift the caddy (future holes for wheels), a drain for the cooler, and outdoor varnish and sealer to guard from the elements. Download the SketchUP file HERE for an animated look at each step.
